Proposing this valentine’s day?

Now’s the time to plan for wedding bands and eternity rings

WEDDING BANDS
After the wedding, some women may choose to only wear their wedding band on their ring finger. If you’ve chosen an engagement ring that needs an unusual shaped wedding band to fit alongside it, there’s the potential it could look odd when worn on its own. This is why it’s important to think about wedding bands while you’re shopping for an engagement ring.

ETERNITY RINGS
An eternity ring is commonly gifted from a husband to a wife to mark a wedding anniversary (commonly the first or tenth) or the birth of a baby. It normally sits alongside the engagement ring and wedding band or it can be a right-hand ring. Again, this is something you should think about while shopping for an engagement ring.

FOR HIM… NEW ZIRO RINGS
Ziro rings are made from Zirconium. Zirconium is very similar to Titanium – it is relatively lightweight, is skin-friendly (no nickel), and is high heat and corrosion resistant. Unlike Tungsten rings, which can shatter, Black Zirconium rings are shatterproof. Ziro rings are jet black in colour and are similar in weight to titanium – much lighter than Tungsten.
Black Zirconium rings are customisable, which means the width, thickness, finger size and combination with other metals (e.g. gold, silver, titanium, platinum) and can be personalised to meet individual needs.

WHAT VALENTINE’S DAY MEANS AND WHY A FEBRUARY 14TH PROPOSAL IS SO SPECIAL.
Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day of the year, so it makes sense that many people choose to proclaim their ever-lasting love with a proposal on this special day.
There are multiple ideas of how Valentine’s Day came to be recognised. Most scholars believe Valentine’s Day (or the Feast of Saint Valentine) was originally a day to honour a priest who secretly performed marriage ceremonies after the Roman emperor Claudius prohibited marriage for young men (claiming bachelors made better soldiers). Saint Valentine is believed to have been apprehended by the Romans and put to death on February 14th.
The day became associated with love and romance around 1375 by means of a poem Geoffrey Chaucer wrote, an association that didn’t exist until after his poem received widespread attention. The poem “The Parliament of Fowls” refers to February 14 as the day birds (and humans) come together to find a mate, linking a tradition of courtly love with the celebration of St. Valentine’s Day:
For this was on Saint Valentine’s Day,
When every fowl cometh there to choose his mate.
In the afterlife, Saint Valentine is called upon to watch over the lives of lovers. He’s also the patron saint of engaged couples and happy marriages.
Over the centuries, the holiday evolved, and by the 18th century, gift-giving and exchanging handmade cards on Valentine’s Day had become common in England and America.

THE SYMBOLISM OF THE WEDDING BAND
The oldest recorded exchange of wedding rings comes from ancient Egypt. The circle is said to be the symbol of eternity, with no beginning or end, signifying never-ending love between two people. The hole in the center of the ring also bears significance. Considered to be a gateway, or door; leading to things and events both known and unknown.
According to a tradition believed to have been derived from the Romans, the wedding ring is worn on the left-hand ring finger because there was thought to be a vein in the finger, referred to as the ‘Vena Amoris’ or the ‘Vein of Love’ said to be directly connected to the heart.

THE SYMBOLISM OF THE ETERNITY RING
The name symbolises love and commitment. The Egyptian idea of an “eternal” ring – a continuous circle that can never be broken – continues to define the modern eternity ring. This is where it gets its name from. An eternity ring should have an unbroken circle (or half circle) of identically cut stones, typically diamonds, with no central stone.
Eternity rings usually mark an important occasion in a couple’s relationship, such as a wedding anniversary (commonly the first or tenth) or the birth of a baby. The eternity ring’s circular shape symbolises lasting love and everything it can endure.
