Putting your wedding day together – how long do things really take?

Organising your wedding day is a big task, which is why it’s important to know how much time you should allow for certain things, so everything runs smoothly and you don’t cause yourself any unnecessary stress or panic.

12 MONTHS AHEAD

Book your venue and set the date – summer is wedding season and many popular venues will book out well in advance. Draft a guest list to make sure your venue will be suitable for your needs and book early to make sure you’re not disappointed.

Book your wedding service providers – this includes people like your photographer, videographer, celebrant, caterer, florist, band or DJ and cars/transport.

SIX MONTHS AHEAD

Dresses and suits – if you’re ordering tailormade dresses or suits, now is the time to organise it. You’ll want to allow plenty of time for it to be made, to have fittings and to make adjustments.

Order your rings – it’s never too early to organise your wedding bands, especially if you’re having something special custom-made. You’ll need to book your jeweller approximately two months in advance – but allow three months if your wedding is around the Christmas period when a lot of jewellery suppliers are closed.

Also…six months in advance is a good time to order your wedding cake, send ‘Save the date’ cards and plan and book your honeymoon.

TWO TO FOUR MONTHS AHEAD

Organise the finer details – finalise the menu, plan your service with your celebrant, write your vows, have a trial for your make-up and hair, meet with your photographer, plan your music selection and send out your invitations.

ONE TO TWO MONTHS AHEAD

Organise legal documents – you’ll need to organise your marriage certificate and any documents required for changing your name.

IN THE FINAL FEW WEEKS

Confirm details with service providers – give your caterer final guest numbers, confirm timing with your florist, finalise transport arrangements and confirm your honeymoon arrangements.

Dress, suit and beauty treatments – have final dress and suit fittings and get a manicure, pedicure and any other beauty treatments you desire.
