As rare as Mint Tourmaline
The unique Mint Tourmaline
Mint Tourmalines are from the Tourmaline family but are classed as those with blueish-green pastel hues. Their colouration is from iron and titanium being present as trace elements when the stone was formed.
The shade of Mint has cycled in popularity throughout history, going as far back as the 1930’s Art Deco period when it was the height of fashion and seen everywhere including car, building, house and clothing colours.
Popular again, the mint hue does occur in other gemstones, but usually not as big, clear or bright as displayed in Tourmalines, which along with their rarity, adds to their uniqueness.
Mint tourmalines are sourced from Afghanistan, Brazil, Congo, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia & Russia. Those from Afghanistan and Brazil produce vivid, rich and bright mint tones and as accessibility to these mines is not easy due to political conflict and rough remote access, adds to the rarity of these gemstones.
Tourmalines are said to provide strong healing capacities, helping to open your heart and clear your mind. They are the modern (1912!) birthstone for those born in October and considered the gemstone for 8th Anniversaries!
Mint tourmalines have it all, vivid, fashionable colour, durability to be worn every day, affordability and rarity.
