NZ Greenstone Kawakawa Mere with green plaited wrist cord
Kawakawa is often a dark green nephrite jade with black flecks. Kawakawa is named after the kawakwa leaf, a native New Zealand herb. The stone's colour is similar to the leaves of the tree. This Mere also has some splashes of Inanga - named for the native Inanga fish.
This stone is a taonga (treasure) to Ngai Tahu and is found on the West Coast of the South Island. It is now yours to protect, to treasure and eventually pass on to the next generation.
